It was in 1973, that a group of avid golfers from Karnataka, embarked on a mission of identifying Bangalore as the golfing capital of South India. The search for a suitable site for an international standard golf course started in earnest and in May 1980, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri. R Gundu rao personally took the initiative to hand over 125 acres of land in Challaghatta to the Karnataka Golf Association.

First golf league in India of its kind. In the first edition, the league consisted of 14 team owners- each team consisting of 18 players.

The team owners selected their team from members of Karnataka Golf Association. The 14 teams were divided in 2 groups. Who played round robin matches culminating to a semi- final and final. The matches were played in Four ball better ball format.
